The Capitol Federal Natatorium

Capitol Federal Natatorium Specifications:

Originally built in 2003, the Capitol Federal Natatorium is Topeka Public School's premier competitive indoor swimming facility. The Natatorium's primary feature is an Olympic-sized 50-meter pool.  The Natatorium also features a four lane 25 yard warm up pool, crash area, multi-purpose room, lobby, concession stand, and public locker rooms.

The main competition pool measures 50 meters long by 25 yards wide and holds approximately 790,000 gallons of water.  The pool's depth ranges from 13'6" to 3'6" to support both competitive swimming/diving while also providing opportunity for recreational use.  Two 1-meter competitive diving boards and a 3 meter diving board sit in the south-east corner of the pool.  A movable bulkhead can be placed in the middle of the pool, splitting it into two 25 yard long competition pools.  Both ends are equipped with Spectrum starting blocks with the east blocks including adjustable wedges.  The south side of the pool features a zero depth ramp entrance for disability access.  Finally, the Natatorium is equipped with grandstand bleachers, located on the northeast side of the facility, that can accommodate up to 1,000 spectators.

Since the Natatorium's construction several additions have been made.  In 2010 an ultraviolet light filtration system was installed to treat the water, reducing the use of chlorine and improving water and air quality.  A separate room was added to the east of the main pool that houses a four lane 25 yard warm up pool.  A crash area was also created to the south side of the pool to provide room for swimming participants.  An independent scoring/timing room along with a scoreboard system were also added.  Along with these additions, in 2019 the HVAC system was replaced and redesigned to further improve air quality.  The Capitol Federal Foundation assisted Topeka Public School's in making these renovations possible.

Capitol Federal Natatorium Usage:

The Natatorium is the home and practice facility of all Topeka Public Schools including; the Topeka High School Trojans, the Topeka West High School Chargers, and the Highland Park High School Scots.  The Natatorium has hosted meets such as Topeka Public School's swim/dive invites, City swim/dive Championships, Centennial League swim/dive Championships, and KSHSAA State Swimming/Diving Championships.  In addition, the Natatorium has hosted the Sunflower State Games and the Sunflower Senior Games.  The USA Swimming team Topeka Swim Association also holds their practices and home swim meets at the Natatorium.  During weekdays, the Natatorium is open for public lap swimming.  Finally, during the summer season, swim lessons & lifeguard certification classes are offered and available to the public.
